Acceptable Use Policy for the Use of Computers, the Network, and the Internet
Guidelines and Expectations for the Use of Computers
Our computers are intended for the educational use of all
youth, staff and community members. The policy is based on the following
premises:
- Priority use for computer is for instructional purposes with large groups receiving
the highest priority, then small groups, and then individuals.
- Disk storage space on the network is limited – the use of disk space is intended
for educational purposes.
- Users are expected to show respect for other users in terms of cleanliness,
server storage space and personal space.
- The Centre will not permit the violation of copyright law.
- Copyright principles and laws are respected. Software development involves a team
effort that blends the talents of writers, programmers and graphic
artists. Copyright laws are intended to protect the rights of the
developers and ensure that they receive fair compensation for their works.
- No software of any kind will be installed on the network computers at any St-AlbertCAP.com
Society lab other than as designated by administrators.
This includes any software that falls within the category of shareware,
freeware, public domain or commercial software. This is to help curb the
spread of viruses.
- All printing must have the prior approval of the supervisor.
- Avoid lengthy Internet sessions if others are waiting to use the machines.
- No food or drink of any type is to be brought into the computer lab.
- All St-AlbertCAP.com Society Lab expectations for appropriate behavior will
apply while using computers. Any behavior deemed inappropriate will be
subject to the consequences described herein. Users are reminded about the
total unacceptability of the use of inappropriate language on the computer
at any time.
Following Are Considered Unacceptable and Unethical Uses
- Illegal activities of any kind.
- For-Profit activities not sanctioned by St-AlbertCAP.com Society.
- Downloading and/or storing of hacking tools.
- Electronic harassment of any kind.
- Seeking to gain unauthorized access to Internet resources - (Hacking).
- Alteration or destruction of computer based information.
- Compromising the privacy or integrity of users or the confidentiality of data.
- Destructive practices or behavior - (e.g. Spamming).
- Downloading or distributing pirated software.
- Uploading or transferring St-AlbertCAP.com Society source code to unauthorized
person(s)/company(s).
- Copying or transmitting confidential information of St-AlbertCAP.com Society, its
clients or its suppliers.
- Unauthorized access to internal systems and information.
Authority and Accountability
- Use your Internet account ONLY for the purpose it was intended.
- You are accountable for your actions while using the computer.
- Be courteous and considerate of the rights of others.
- Do not use St-AlbertCAP.com Society name or logo outside of your scope of authority without permission.
Privacy and Security
- Do not access or use other people's files without their express permission.
- Do not delete or change information without permission from the owner.
- Never assume that your files are private and secure.
- Log off at the end of your session. If you do not log off, your files may be accessible to other people.
Acceptable Use Policy for the Internet and Electronic Mail
Internet access is available to all students, staff and community members at
St-AlbertCAP.com Society. We believe the Internet offers vast diverse and
unique resources that facilitate resource sharing, innovation and
communication. At the same time, we are aware that the Internet may allow users
to access inappropriate and unacceptable materials. Individuals, schools and
various levels of government are taking steps to block access to undesirable
sites. We see the benefits in providing access to information as well as the
problems associated with youth, intentionally or otherwise, coming up less
desirable sites on the internet
